1. Navigating the Homepage

Finding your way around the Analyze Dallas web site is easy to do. Listed below are descriptions for the important components of the webpage that are used to navigate the web site.

Header Navigation

The header appears at the top of every page within the Analyze Dallas site (figure 1).  The graphic image that appears as part of the header will vary depending on the page you are currently viewing.  However, if you scroll to the very top of any page on this site, you will always be able to click on the header or click on the Home link to return to the main page for the website.

Getting Back to the Analyze Dallas Home Page

You can also always use the Analyze Dallas graphic appearing on the uppermost left hand corner of every page (figure 2).

Footer Navigation

The footer on this web site (figure 3) is static and appears at the very bottom of every page on the web site. The links appearing on the footer can be used to find out more information about the partners in the Analyze Dallas project. If you are interested in sending email to the project team, you can use the email link provided on the footer.

2. Browsing Data

The Analyze Dallas site contains a nested series of categories containing maps and data.

Please refer to Figure 4: Browsing Data for the following items:

A.  Category Selection - This section of the site contains the list of nested categories for the data.  Categories that display the plussymbol contain subcategories.  Simply click the plus symbol to expand the list and display the subcategories.  Once you have found the category you would like to analyze, click the category name to display available data for the category.

B.  Available Maps - This section contains the number of maps available for the selected category.  To view the maps, click the link.

C.  Available Data - This section contains all data available in the selected category.  To view the data, click the link.

D.  Geography Type Selector* - This option allows you to filter available data by geography.  Once you change the selected item, the geographic areas for the item will be displayed in the Geographic Area Selector.

E.  Geographic Area Selector* - This option continues the data filtering process by allowing you to display data based on a particular geographic area.  Simply select the geographic area you would like to view from the list.

*NOTE:  By default, the City of Dallas will automatically be selected.

Please refer to Figure 5: Viewing Data for the following items:

A.  Return To List - This link allows you to return to browsing data

B.  Dataset Name - The name of the dataitem displayed in each column.

C.  Year - The year for each dataset

D.  Geographic Reference
- The geographic reference for each row of data (please see H:  Data Grouping Selector for more information).

E.  Totals - The total amounts for each dataset

F.  Data Source - The reference or datasource for the data currently displayed

G.  Print This Page - Clicking this button will activate the print functionality of your web browser.

H.  Data Grouping Selector - This selector allows you to view data grouped by geographic area, census tract, or zip code where available.

3. Browsing Maps

Please refer to Figure 6:  Browsing Maps for the following items:

A. Category Selection - This section of the site contains the list of nested categories for the data. Categories that display the plus symbol contain subcategories. Simply click the plus symbol to expand the list and display the subcategories. Once you have found the category you would like to analyze, click the category name to display available maps for the category.

B. Available Maps - This list contains available maps for the selected category.  To view a map, simply click the link.

C.  Available Data - This link displays the number of data items available for the selected category.  To View the data, click the link.

Please refer to Figure 7:  Viewing Maps for the following items:

A.  Return to List of Maps - This link will take you back to the list of maps

B.  Map Title - This text contains the title of the map you are currently viewing

C.  Map Description - This text contains a brief description of the map

D.  Map Legend - This area contains the legend to help understand the data contained in the map

E.  Click For Larger Size - When you click on the map, a larger version will be displayed.

F.  Additional Files - Some maps contain additional files including PDF version and/or other reference data.  To view the attached files, simply click the name of the file you would like to view.

4. Printer Friendly Pages

To print a part of the webpage, simply select the desired page (by navigating to that page) and click on the the print command that is located under the File menu of your browser. You can also simply click Ctrl + P to print the desired page (figure 8).

5. Feedback

One of the main goals of the Analyze Dallas site is to be a useful and usable resource for the community. On behalf of the project partners, the project steering committee and the project development team, we invite users to submit their feedback via the feedback form (figure 9). You can also upload data or studies that you would like to have included, by using the button marked Browse.
